4 STAR REVIEW
The plot was interesting. I will totally admit that even after reading it, I'm not entirely sure how all the threads will turn out. Because this is the first book, I felt like there were parts that were not entirely explained because it would come to fruition in the next book. It reminded me of playing Skyrim-you're not entirely sure why you went on the side quest, but it was fun and enjoyable, so you did. The main plot, which is where Nadine travels across the country to rescue a dragon and thereby rescue her family, was well developed and eventually resolved. The rest of the threads, like Lady Christine, Nadine's "powers?", the good Friar (can't remember his name), were left open, probably to be explored in the sequels.
The setting of the story is very descriptive and classic. It reminds you of when writers actually explained things instead of launching into the plot. For that reason, I think those with Aphantasia will enjoy this story. I also found her detailed imagery refreshing. I really felt like I was watching an epic fantasy film, with dark forests, still waters, and dangerous destinations. For about 1/3 of the book, it brought me back to when I read Hatchet, and how it felt with man v. nature.

Wow. That is all I can say about this book. It kept me on my toes waiting to find out what came next. I was left wanting more and I am very eager to read anything written by this writer. This book had everything I like in the fantasy genre. It was well-written with a lot of character and world building. I would definitely recommend this book.
Everything you need in a fantasy novel. With power hungry characters, and dragons out for revenge you will keep turning pages until the end and still want more from this author. Looking forward to the next book.v
