Welcome to Author Chats

Do you want to learn from other authors who have walked the journey?

Hear from fellow authors and industry experts on their experiences of an authors’s journey.

When I started writing, I had no clue what I was doing. I knew that I wanted to transform my life, but I did not want to make masses of mistakes.

So I started asking questions and devouring as much training material as I could.

In this section I chat to other authors and industry experts to help you gain insight to how to improve your author career.

Getting to Market Fast with Vellum - with Author Rob Radcliffe

Author Rob Radcliffe is a novelist and blogger with over 11 titles published and a few more on the way due for release in 2020.

Rob, who had 15 years of experience in the pub industry, made the switch to full-time author in 2019. He was born and raised in Lancashire, England, but spent some time in his youth studying in Sunny South Africa. Rob wrote his first book at 8 years old while on a "forced" school break, but he released his first published book in 2015.

He writes across several genres, ‘Lad’ Lit (which would be chick-lit’s naughty younger brother), Satire, Thrillers, and Sci-fi/Fantasy. I enjoyed the Healer, which to my surprise was the third book in a series, but mercifully for me he wrote them as standalone novels. His experience in pub industry means he has few interesting anecdotes to share. We spared our audience the ones that might make you blush. I met Rob on an international author support platform, when someone who was typesetting my book dropped me just days before my launch. Rob stepped in and helped me out by formatting my manuscript in Vellum, which is a software for creating beautiful books.

I am grateful for his time, expertise and generosity, as he helped me to launch quickly and professionally when it looked like everything was about to fall apart for me. Rob chats to us in this edition of Author Chats about his experience with Vellum as book formatting tool. He speaks about his author's career, managing productivity as an author with kids and his books. Rob offers a range of services to a new small group of authors. He has a passion for helping authors who re prone to exploitation by vanity publishers who prey on authors who have not yet learned about the business of books. I loved the fact that Rob could format my book on Vellum in just a few minutes and experiment with different fonts in real-time, that I am now a firm advocate of it.
